Every route out of Calgary into the Rockies, with real 2026 prices. Calgary to Banff is 140 km and runs from about $21 on a coach to $299 for a private vehicle. Canmore is closer, Lake Louise is 180 km and costs more, Jasper is 410 km and takes over four hours. Drumheller and the Icefields Parkway have no public transport at all. Inside the mountains, Roam Transit charges $12.50 a ride or $25 a day, the Moraine Lake shuttle is about $8, and ski shuttles are free with a lift ticket. Most transport pages in this region list one company’s own services and stop there. This one lists everything, because the useful question is not which of our services to buy, it is how to get where you are going. We run the Calgary corridor and have done since 2017, so where a competitor is the better answer we have said so.

Calgary to Lake Louise
Lake Louise is 55 km past Banff, so everything costs more and takes longer. A scheduled coach through to Lake Louise starts around $77. A private transfer from YYC starts at $389.99, or $589.99 for the round trip, and $389.00 coming back to the airport.
Lakeshore parking is $42 per vehicle per day in season, charged from 3am, and the lots fill before dawn. That fee is the main reason driving here is less appealing than it looks. See the Lake Louise guide.
Calgary to Jasper
410 km and four and a half hours minimum, usually via the Icefields Parkway, which turns it into a full day rather than a transfer. A private transfer from YYC starts at $499.00. There is no public bus along the Parkway itself, so the alternatives are a rental car or a tour.
Calgary to Drumheller
135 km northeast, the opposite direction to the mountains, and no scheduled bus service runs it. Options are a rental car or a day tour, typically 9 to 10 hours door to door. Details in the Drumheller day trip guide, and the case for going private in when a private Drumheller tour is worth it.

Where there is no public transport at all
Three places catch out car-free travellers, because the transit network in Banff is good enough that people assume it extends everywhere.
- Moraine Lake. Closed to private vehicles since 2023, permanently. Parks Canada shuttle, Roam with the Super Pass, or a licensed operator, June to mid October only. No access at all in winter.
- The Icefields Parkway. No bus runs north of Lake Louise. Rental car, tour or private transfer. One gas station on 232 km, closed in winter. See the Parkway guide.
- Drumheller. No scheduled service from Calgary.
What runs in winter
Roughly November to April, the seasonal services stop and the year-round ones do not. Parks Canada shuttles, the Super Pass and On-It all pause. Roam local routes, ski shuttles, scheduled shared shuttles and private transfers keep running.
Winter tires or chains are legally required from November 1 to March 31 on designated park highways including the Icefields Parkway, and a Calgary rental will not have them unless you asked. Full detail in the winter guide.
Which option fits you
- Solo, daytime flight, lowest fare: FlixBus, or On-It if your dates land on the summer weekend schedule.
- Couple wanting hotel pickup: a door to door shared shuttle.
- Four or more people: price a private vehicle before booking separate seats. It is often the same or less.
- Landing after 9pm or leaving before dawn: private transfer. Nothing scheduled runs then.
- Staying a week and reaching trailheads: rent a car, and check what tires it has in winter.
- Ski trip based in Banff: do not rent. Shuttle in, ski shuttles daily, shuttle out.

What is the lowest cost way from Calgary to Banff?
On-It regional transit at around $10 when it runs, mainly summer weekends. Year round, FlixBus from about $21. Both use fixed stops, so add the cost of reaching the pickup point.
Is there public transport from Calgary airport to the Rockies?
Not year round. On-It runs seasonally. Otherwise it is a scheduled coach, a shared shuttle or a private transfer.
How much is transport in Banff?
Roam Transit charges $12.50 per regional ride or $25 for a day pass. The Moraine Lake shuttle is about $8, Johnston Canyon about $5, Canmore local buses are free, and ski shuttles are free with a valid lift ticket.
Can you visit the Rockies without a car?
Yes for Banff, Canmore, Lake Louise and the ski hills. No for the Icefields Parkway, Drumheller, and Moraine Lake outside the June to mid October shuttle season, where you need a tour or a private vehicle.
How far in advance should I book?
Moraine Lake and larch season shuttles, months. Summer and holiday shuttle seats, weeks. Private transfers, as soon as you have flight times. Winter outside the holidays is the one period you can often book late.
Do I need a park pass?
Yes, for Banff, Lake Louise, the Icefields Parkway and Jasper, including shuttle and coach passengers. Not for Canmore, Kananaskis or Drumheller, which sit outside the national parks.
